Spanish Oral Proficiency Assessments
Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview (SOPI)
The World Languages program expects that their major will have reached an ACTFL proficiency level of Advanced Low by the first semester of their senior year. In order to check their progress, the students are tested at the sophomore level, using a short version of the SOPI (Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview). Students are again tested at the senior level. All seniors with Language Studies and Culture Studies option will take the Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview (SOPI). Students with the Teacher Education option will take the OPI/WPT.
Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Writing Placement Test (WPT)
Teacher Education students and post-baccalaureate students seeking certification in Spanish must take the OPI/WPT (Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test). In order to receive certification and graduate from Millersville University, students must reach the Intermediate High level on the OPI and the Intermediate High level on the WPT for certification in Pennsylvania.
