On the campus of Millersville University, international flags adorn the ceiling of the Galley in the Student Memorial Center (SMC) and the Lombardo Welcome Center through the International Flag Project, funded by a generous donation from Michael G. Warfel ’84. The International Flag Project has enriched the educational and cultural experience of students on campus and includes approximately 200 world flags representing countries and territories from around the world in the Galley of the Student Memorial Center, in addition to world flags representing the current population of Millersville University’s international students, displayed in the Lombardo Welcome Center.
Through his generous support for students, Warfel established the Michael G. Warfel ’84 Fund for International Student Experiences and is honored with the naming of the Michael G. Warfel '84 Center for International Programs & Services on campus at Millersville University, reflecting his tremendous contribution to international education.
Warfel is vice president of government affairs at Highmark Inc. in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Millersville University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He later earned a master’s degree in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, Warfel serves as the chair of the Millersville University Council of Trustees and is a member of the Hobbs-Wickersham Society. Warfel also previously served as a director on the Millersville University Foundation Board and the Millersville University Alumni Association Board.
