The Nest Commuter Lounge
NEW in 2025!
Welcome to the Nest, the new commuter-exclusive lounge space on Millersville's campus! Located in SMC 104 and occupying over 1100 sft of lounge space, the Nest is the new "home away from home" for our commuter students and offers several spaces to rest, nap, collaborate, study, and eat. The Nest also includes computer work stations and kitchenette area with a refrigerator for food storage, microwave, and Keurig machine.
John Hearn, Director of SMC Operations, shared "As a former commuter student myself, I understand the unique needs of having to travel between home, campus, and often work. While commuter students are resilient, even resilience needs a place to rest. That’s what we hope to provide with The Nest. A place for commuters to find a home away from home, rest, relax, study, or simply nap in a semi-public area created just for them."
Aly Sehl, Assistant Director of Student Affairs, explains that the purpose of a lounge primarily for commuter students is to address the unique needs and challenges of commuting and to help students feel more connected to campus life. “The Nest aims to make their college experience more comfortable, convenient and inclusive,” she says.
The Nest is open to all commuting students during regular SMC hours of Operation. Students can come and go as they wish and stay as long as they need to. Our hope is that every commuting student can see themselves using the various resources within the Nest and this space fosters and supports commuter student engagement and success on campus.
