Student Requests & Forms
During your time at Millersville you will need to keep the Office of International Programs & Services up to date regarding any life changes. To keep your immigration status in good standing it is important to discuss these changes with international staff ahead of time, so you are aware of the steps to take to remain in good standing for immigration and academic purposes. For your convenience we provide you with the necessary forms needed to assist you in this process.
-
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
The Department of Homeland Security requires that all foreign nationals inform them of any change of address within 10 days of moving. You must update your address in your MAX account.
All active F-1 and J-1 students and scholars (and their dependents) should inform the Office of International Programs and Services of any address change by submitting the Change of Address form.
Failure to comply with this requirement is a violation of your F-1/ J-1 status, which may result in serious consequences, including your termination in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitors Information System), inability to re-enter the U.S., and detention and deportation from the U.S.
-
LETTER REQUESTS
The Office of International Programs & Services can provide various letters of verification you may need throughout your stay in the U.S. If you are a current international student at Millersville University in good standing, on a valid visa, and you are in need of a letter, complete the appropriate form below.
Students should plan ahead to allow up to 1 week for processing.
VERIFICATION LETTERS
Letters verifying student status and address are needed if you are seeking to obtain a Social Security Card, to obtain a driver’s license, and frequently for traveling outside the U.S. Exchange students may also need similar letters for their home universities.
If you need a letter detailing information not included in the form below stop by the Office of International Programs & Services to discuss your letter with a program coordinator or email International@Millersville.edu with the completed form and the additional information you need included in your letter.
SACM LETTERS
If students sponsored by the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission need letters, they should complete the form below. For example, you may need to request a letter to change your major, to submit a graduation plan, for a scholarship extension, or to request permission to take an online course.
If you need a letter detailing information not included in the form below stop by the Office of International Programs & Services to discuss your letter with a program coordinator or email International@Millersville.edu with the completed form and the additional information you need included in your letter.

REDUCED COURSE LOAD
To maintain legal status, all F-1 and J-1 students must be registered for a full course of study (minimum 12 credits for undergraduates and 9 credits for graduates). There are cases, however, in which regulations consider a student to be pursuing a full course of study even though they are not actually registered for the minimum full credit requirements. Talk to international staff if you have questions.
A student who drops below a full course of study (after the drop-add period) without prior approval of a DSO will be considered out of status. Please be advised that a lack of financial support does not constitute a valid reason to reduce course load per immigration regulations.
Approved Reasons for Reduced Course Load
- Completion of course of study
- Medical Reasons
- Academic Difficulties including:
- Initial difficulties with English language
- Unfamiliarity with American teaching methods
- Initial difficulties with reading requirements
- Improper course placement
Failure to comply with this requirement is a violation of your F-1 status, which may result in serious consequences, including your termination in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitors Information System), inability to re-enter the U.S., and detention and deportation from the U.S.

TRANSFER REQUESTS
If you plan to come to Millersville University from another U.S. university, or if you plan to attend another school, Millersville will have to transfer your immigration record.
International students MUST attend the school they are authorized to attend by the Department of Homeland Security. Students are authorized to attend the school whose name appears on their I-20 or DS-2019 - in some cases, the DS-2019 may be from a different sponsor.
Transfer In
The Office of International Programs and Services (IPS) cannot issue your new I-20 or DS-2019 until your SEVIS record has been electronically transferred from your previous institution to Millersville University. Please consult with your current international student adviser regarding the transfer date. Communicate with IPS to make sure we receive your SEVIS record. You MUST have your new I-20 or DS-2019 before starting your program at Millersville.
Transfer Out
If you are planning to leave Millersville University to attend another U.S. school, you must request a "transfer out" from the Office of International Programs & Services. International staff will release your SEVIS record to the new school. The date of your release depends on your current program status.
