Dr. Yalda Elected Fellow of American Meteorological Society

A prestigious honor has been awarded to Dr. Sepi Yalda, professor of meteorology and director of the Center for Disaster Research and Education. Yalda was recently elected Fellow of the American Meteorological Society.

The AMS is a professional organization of 11,000 members serving the public, private and academic sectors across the weather, water, climate enterprise.

The AMS Council elects new fellows each year at its fall meeting from a slate of nominees submitted by the Fellows Committee for their “outstanding contributions to the atmospheric or related oceanic or hydrologic sciences or their applications during a substantial period of years.” The number of new fellows cannot exceed 0.2% of the membership in any given year.

“It is very satisfying, yet humbling, to be elected AMS Fellow by a group of my peers,” Yalda says. “As a student in my college years, and throughout my professional career, I have worked hard to make my mark by contributing to my professional society in a variety of ways, including leadership roles. To have this recognition is very meaningful, and a highlight of my career.”

“I have received so many kind messages of congratulations from former students,” Yalda continues. “I am especially honored to share this honor with my colleague and friend, Dr. Everette Joseph, director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research,” she adds. Yalda will be one of 22 fellows to be formally inducted at the 102nd Annual Meeting of the AMS in January 2022.
