Student Emergency Plan
Hurricane Sandy took a massive toll on the residents of New York and New Jersey. Many were forced to evacuate due to flooding, including New York University Hospital. Over 47,000 buildings were damaged in New York and 72,000 in New Jersey. An estimated 8.5 million were without power for several days. Two weeks after Sandy, 200,000 were still without power in parts of New York.
The Lancaster area could have been greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy. Although this time we were not impacted, the Center for Disaster Research & Education (CDRE) would like to remind everyone of the importance of the Family Action Plan and Emergency Kit.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends every family have a Family Action Plan. The Family Action Plan provides vital information about emergency contacts and evacuation areas. The Action Plan is for you, your friends, and your family to know and have on hand during an emergency. It allows everyone to be on the same page and understand where you will go if you need to evacuate, how you will get there, who you will be with, and their contact information. The following link provides you with a template to design your personal family plan.

The Emergency Kit is highly recommended for everyone to have in their homes, at work, and in their cars. The Kit should include enough food and water for three days, a first aid kit, blankets, flashlights, batteries, etc. The following link provides you with a supply list.
