How do I become an NSF Noyce Scholar?

Application Components

The application requires the following components:

  • Professional Reference or Curriuclum Vitae
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
    • Recommendations should come from educators, employers, or other professionals qualified to provide insight about your mathematics/science competency and/or ability to teach (personal acquaintances or family members are not appropriate references).
  • Official Copy of All Transcripts
    • Note: If you are a Millersville University of Pennsylvania student or alum, we have your transcripts on file; there is no need to send additional copies. (Note: please submit all transcripts in one document)
  • Personal Essay
    • Attach a typed 500-1000 word narrative that addresses each of the following: (a) Describe the high school setting that you attended (size, location, rural/urban/suburban) and share your overall experience at that school; (b) Describe how working in a high-need school district is unlike your high school experience. For example, if you went to a rural high school, what do you think teaching in an urban school would be like? (c) Share what drew you to your current mathematics/science field; (d) Share what interested you in becoming a mathematics/science teacher; and (e) What professional goals do you hope to accomplish as part of this program. There are no right or wrong answers, but please submit a well-written essay.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible applicants need the following:

  • Undergraduate BS STEM majors with 60 or more credits who are interested in pursuing a BSE in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, or Physics degree.
  • BS STEM Graduates with a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Mathematics, or Physics who can earn a Post-Baccalaureate teaching certification within one-year of the award.
  • Currently enrolled at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, or already accepted for admission to Millersville University of Pennsylvania as a transfer student and be a current U.S. citizen or national, or a permanent resident alien.
  • Minimum overall and content major GPA of 3.0.
  • Commitment to teach two years in a high-need school district for every full-year in which the scholarship is received.
