Name: Watson,
Advisor: Frank, Jennifer
Department: Social Work
Award: Noonan Endowment
Abstract: Social isolation and loneliness undermine our human rights, limiting our potential in both individual and community contexts. The importance of human relationships is an essential core social work value, and it is a professional responsibility to foster human connections. This presentation will discuss a university-communicommunity
collaborative research project that examined the development of relationships and mitigation of loneliness over a year-long letter writing exchange between MSW students and participants of local agencies that attend to poverty. Participants will discuss social isolation and loneliness and their impacts on community and individual wellbeing.
