Indigenous Studies Conference Presentation Registration and Research Materials
Name: Traut,
Advisor: Amber Pfannenstiel
Department: ENGL
Award: Noonan Endowment
Abstract: This proposal considers funding for my research, attendance, and presentation at the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association’s conference (MAPACA) in November, as well as my attendance and “book talk” participation at the Association on American Indian Affairs’ conference (AAA), also, in November. The original paper I was selected to present at MAPACA, Shifting Museum Discourse: Subverting Relative Invisibility in Native American Exhibits Through The Use of Visual Artifacts, combines my field research at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s “Aloca Hall of American Indians” with my MU classroom studies in ENGL 691 Tribal Legal Studies and ENGL 691 Native American Literature (both independent studies). It investigates how discourse at institutions of higher education and learning impact and construct identity for indigneous Americans.
