Survey of School Psychology Graduate Program Consultation Training Practices
Name: Brogan,
Advisor: Lauren Kaiser
Department: PSYCH
Award: Student Research Grant
Abstract: This student research grant proposal is to request funds for access to qualitative data analysis software to participate as a student research assistant with consultation faculty to explore and describe consultation and systems-consultation training in graduate school psychology programs, expanding on prior research (Anton-LaHart & Rosenfield, 2004; Hazel et al., 2010; Newman et al., 2015). The descriptive study uses survey methodology to collect two types of data. Part one includes a survey of the trainer's current consultation knowledge, former training in consultation and systems-level consultation, and current implementation of training practices within the program. Part two includes a request for consultation course syllabi. The syllabi will be coded using qualitative analysis procedures (Saldana, 2021) using the proposed qualitative research software (e.g., DeDoose). Descriptive statistics will be provided about the types of training methods and materials used, the consultation competencies taught, and the amount of practice and supervision required. Implications for graduate trainers in school psychology will be discussed.
