Millersville University Piedmont-area Arctic System Tracking - Cross-frontal Environment (MU-PAST-CfE)

Department: ESCI
Award: Student Research Grant
Abstract: MU-PAST CfE is a faculty supervised field research project involving over 35 undergraduate meteorology majors designed to study the structure and evolution of winter season Arctic fronts as they progress across the Appalachian piedmont region. The experimental design involves the concurrent deployment of three teams, each comprising a team leader and four research assistants, in a trifurcated pattern that will allow the simultaneous launching of a swarm of weather balloons to document the structure of the front at a particular time. This proposal requests funding for the equipment and supplies needed for the team investigating the cross-frontal environment (CfE) to carry out their scientific objective, but in a COVID-safe manner.
