Creating Covalent Organic Compounds using Thiophenes for Stability

Abstract: We are working with covalent organic frameworks, which show great potential in gas adsorption, use in solar cells, and as a catalyst. The structure we want to make will have a large surface area that can be used as an excellent gas adsorber. Integration of thiophenes (aromatic rings with sulfur) would introduce polar bonds to assist in gas capture. When analyzing our COFs, we use NMR and IR, at Millersville University and X-ray diffraction with our collaborators at Johns Hopkins University. Our covalent organic frameworks are made of small molecules that are original compounds and which have been published on the open-access journal site: ChemSpider Synthetics Page. The COF and small molecule structures will also be published in peer-reviewed journals once a complete analysis of the COF has been developed.
