Abstract: The article discusses the significance of the Standards for Technological Literacy (STL) in advancing the goals of technology and engineering education (TEE). Topics include some advocates of public education like Thomas Jefferson, Horace Mann, and Neil Postman, and the dilemmas over the goal of education like whether to prioritize developing skilled workers or educating the young to become responsible citizens.
