Name: Amanda MoyerAmanda with her research

Hometown: Lewisberry, PA

Anticipated graduation: Spring 2024

Major: Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN Program

Inspiraions (for major, research, internship):

I am inspired to make a difference in improving the outcomes of my patients through evidence-based practice and meaningful experience in various settings to explore and adapt to complex situations.

Highlights (from courses/internship/research):

Over the course of my FNP program, I have learned how to be proactive on a global scale by making an impact in our local communities. As a nurse, you become one with your patients and empathize with their current situations in order to effectively educate them.

In nursing research, we open the door to safer, more effective means of practice. Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is the foundation upon which we become and grow as nurses. It is the profession in which involves lifelong learning, and I am happy to be on this journey, attending Millersville University.

Takeaway (from courses/internship/research):

Bridging the gap from being a Clinical RN to Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The courses at Millersville teaches the history of nurses as APP’s, the current concepts/theories, research/Evidence Based Practice, all pertinent to critically thinking and molding into a true advance level provider.

Advice (for incoming freshman in your shoes):

Challenge yourself, seek opportunities for growth, align your passion with your goals. Find a balance that works for you -this program is truly meant for the working nurse. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the process.

Aspirations (upon graduation):

Upon graduation, I am carefully considering where my skills will be best utilized as a member of a clinical team of providers. My passions are in women’s health, acute care, internal medicine, and education.

If you are currently employed in your field, please provide professional information, where you work, when you started, etc.:

My background as a bedside nurse is solely Intensive Care. I started as a new grad in the Adult ICU and have since worked in the Trauma/Surgical ICU, travel ICU RN, and I currently work for Wellspan, York Hospital where I worked as part of the Nursing Resource Team as an ICU float RN. After a couple years, I then started working in the Open-Heart ICU, and now am part of a small team of Critical Care/ ER RN’s that monitor Sepsis in patients to prevent further decline and promote immediate intervention for all of Wellspan. I have also been fortunate to go back to the very school that I graduated nursing school from and now teach as a Clinical Instructor to RN students.

What has been the most significant and/or exciting aspect of your work?

Knowing that I make a difference is truly a rewarding feeling. Regardless of which setting I’m working in, whether I’m at the bedside in the ICU, teaching students, or diving in charts to see which patients potentially need intervention, it is exciting to work as a team with such amazing providers to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
