  • What does Intersex mean?

    A term used for a combination of chromosomes, gonads, hormones, internal sex organs, and genitals that differs from the two expected patterns of male or female.

  • Isn’t queer a slur?

    Yes and no. While the word has a history of being used in a derogatory manner, many individuals have reclaimed the term as an identifier. The word queer can be used as an umbrella term to refer to individuals who don't identify as straight and/or cisgender.

  • What is the binary?

    The binary is the construct our society has accepted for many years, stating that there are only two genders. Gender is often used interchangeably with sex, but they are in fact two separate things. Sex refers to the biological reproductive parts an individual is born with. There are three different sexes: male, female and intersex. Gender, refers to the cultural traits we often associate with the two binary sexes, i.e. masculinity and feminity, and how one expresses their gender identity.
