Careers in Psychology

I/O psychologists are trained in organizational behavior, human resource management, psychological testing, research methods and statistics. I/O psychologists work in universities as professors or in applied settings, such as private companies and government agencies. Some I/O psychologists work as private consultants providing services to companies wishing to improve performance appraisal systems, employee relations, personnel selection, training procedures, or leadership development. I/O psychologists help organizations recruit and hire the best people for the job. They develop programs to enhance the skills and motivation of employees, and generate ways to reduce worker absenteeism. They help organizations build environments that foster company loyalty and comradeship.
