Learn about the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology
The Master of Science program in Clinical Psychology program offers 42 and 60 credit options. The 42 credit option is suitable for entering a doctoral program after graduation. The 60 credit option meets the educational requirements in the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) PA regulations and is recommended if you wish to become licensed.

- This is a comprehensive and well-integrated program of study whose main purpose is to train competent, multi-skilled, and ethically-informed practitioners to work in mental health settings or pursue advanced doctoral study.
- In the Clinical program professional competence is seen as a function of personal growth and the development of good interpersonal communication skills combined with a strong knowledge base in psychological assessment and effective interventions with growing emphasis on empirically-supported treatments.
- Our goal is to produce professionally competent master’s level practitioners with a solid skill set and an ethically and multi-culturally informed approach to psychological practice who are flexible enough to work as direct service providers in a wide range of inpatient and outpatient public and private mental health settings.

Application Deadline
January 15th for fall admission, June 1st on a space available basis for those who have missed the January deadline (fall). October 1st for spring admission.
Admission Requirements
- Minimum of 18 undergraduate semester hours in psychology.
- The following courses are expected: General/Introductory Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Research/Statistical Design.
- Note that prospective students who have not completed one or more of these courses may be required to do so as a condition for admission to the clinical program.
- Official transcript
- Three letters of recommendation
- An autobiographical sketch indicating how the student's desire for advanced training in psychology/counseling developed.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required for applicants with lower than a 3.0 GPA, with minimum scores of 148 (Verbal), 147 (Quantitative), 3.5 (Analytical Writing). Submission of GRE scores is optional for all other applicants.
- Interview with program staff and writing sample.

Outline your entire program of study with your advisor. Decide early on the 42 or 60 credit options.
Read the LPC law. Keep a copy.
Get a hard copy of the graduate catalogue EVERY year. It is updated annually and contains all policies, program and course descriptions in effect during your matriculation. It may be useful in addressing questions from the State Board’s transcript reviewers when you apply for licensure.
Save ALL course syllabi. Licensing boards may request these to determine if educational requirements were met by a particular course.
Get OFFICIAL copies of your transcript after graduation. Employers and licensing boards require official transcripts. Check for accuracy and the date of actual M.S. degree conferral.
Keep a file of all graduate work/info. Documenting your education, training, and experience is essential for getting and keeping licensure and for subsequent employment. You should keep this information indefinitely.
