Dr. Jason Baker

Dr. Baker teaches primarily in the graduate school counseling program, teaching such courses as Guidance Program Development (SCCN 671), Career Development (SCCN 645), Appraisal Techniques (SCCN 631), and Study of the Individual (SCCN 612).   At the undergraduate level, Dr. Baker teaches Development of the Child and Adolescent (PSYC 227), Human Life Span Development (PSYC 228), and Human Relations (PSYC 234).

Dr. Baker received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Juniata College in 1999.  In 2002, He went onto receive his Masters Degree in Counselor Education with a specialization in elementary school counseling from Penn State University.   Dr. Baker graduated with his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Regent University in 2008.
 
Prior to teaching at MU, Dr. Baker worked for 5 years as a school counselor laying the foundational framework for a comprehensive school counseling program.  For many years, Dr. Baker also worked in community mental health with both children and adults.

Dr. Baker’s dissertation examined the use of online virtual environments to teach social skills to third and fourth grade students.  Extending this research agenda, Dr. Baker is interested in technology in teaching and counseling, assessment techniques in school counseling, and the experiences of the rural school counselor.

When not in work mode,  Dr. Baker enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, and gardening.  He is also interested in music from both a creation and consumption standpoint.
