Why Study This Program?

A minor in American Literature gives you the opportunity to explore early, modern and contemporary American literature, the American Renaissance, realism, naturalism, American authors and more. While studying literature, you will also be introduced to literary theories and the development of languages. This minor is housed within the English and World Languages department, and is available to both English and non-English majors.

 

What Will You Learn?

Both English and non-English majors may take elective courses in American Literature to fulfill their minor requirements. American Literature courses at Millersville include Early American Literature, African American Literature I: The Beginnings through the Harlem Renaissance, Afro-American Literature II: The Depression through the Black Arts Movement, Contemporary American Literature and Ethnic American Literature after 1945.

In addition to American Literature, English majors can opt to minor in British literature, journalism, linguistics or writing studies.
