Traveling Scholar Program
International Programs & Services (IPS) assists faculty, staff, and contracted instructors to participate in international education opportunities. The Traveling Scholar Program provides opportunities to current employees and outside candidates for an international experience, professional development, and to collaborate with Millersville University's international partners. Multiple opportunities are available every year.

Xinyang Normal University (China)
Xinyang Normal University - Location: Virtual/Remote or on-site Xinyang, China (mid-eastern China), depending on current travel conditions.
- Students: Class sections have 50-60 students. All students major in Economics. Students have varying English proficiencies, between intermediate to advanced.
- Faculty Housing: (Only applicable for on-site teaching) Housing is provided if teaching on-location in Xinyang, China. The selected housing is a Hostel or Hotel (spouse/dependents permitted with prior approval); kitchen with refrigerator and stove; Furniture includes a bed and desk; kitchen and bedding supplies provided.
- Courses (10): Concepts of Economics in English; Macroeconomics; Microeconomics; International Economics; Labor Economics; Intro to World Economy; Money, Credit, and Banking; Principles of Management; Principles of Marketing; Quantitative Methods in Business
LIST OF BENEFITS PROVIDED:Non-Millersville instructors: XYNU will pay a salary based on the number of class sections taught between $8,352 - $11,192 commensurate with degree and teaching experience.Degree Teaching Experience Approximate Salary Per Class Section Masters 2 years $8,352 Masters 3+ years $8,988 Doctorate 2 years $9,668 Doctorate 3+ years $11,192 Note: XYNU will pay Millersville University professors equivalent salary to their APSCUF contract.
XYNU will pay additional benefits for on-site teaching and travel to China:
- International Medical and Emergency Travel Insurance (Cost equal to about $19/per week)
- Roundtrip or two one-way flights to/from host city in China
- Transportation to/from airport in China provided
- Housing/Accommodations
- Work visa costs (Z Visa)
Millersville University's Office of International Programs and Services (IPS):
During your teaching term, IPS will also act as a liaison for any technology (virtual instruction), travel (in-site instruction), or general support issues and concerns.
In-person travel would be registered on IPS' travel database. In-person travelers will additionally be provided cultural and travel safety information prior to departure and on-call emergency support while abroad.
TEACHING SCHEDULE
Candidates will be assigned to teach two courses with two sections for each class, for a total of four class sections. Exact teaching schedule will be determined by XYNU.

Screening Process
STEP 1: Applicants should submit the following items to International.Partnerships@millersville.edu
- A cover letter indicating which courses they are qualified and interested in teaching, any international or intercultural experience, and which term(s) they wish to apply to.
- CV or detailed resume
- Copies of registrar issued transcripts for all degrees conferred
- One (1) letter of reference dated in the last 12 months.
STEP 2: Chosen applicants will be invited for an interview. Candidates may be asked for a brief teaching demonstration (recording or live).
STEP 3: Final candidates will be offered a contract by our education management company and will undergo criminal background check. The company will offer contracts for each individual term (Ex. spring or fall).
Notes:
- Master's degree and two years of teaching experience required.
- Preference will be given to candidates interested in multi-term participation.
- You will apply to and be vetted by Millersville University, but will be a contracted employee through an education agency working and being paid by the Chinese university.
- The courses are co-designed with the partner and academic credit is provided by the Chinese university.
- This position is not represented by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) and therefore is not subject to the terms and conditions of the APSCUF Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Northeast Agricultural University (China)
Northeast Agricultural University - Location: Harbin, China (northeast)
- Students: Estimated about 15-20 students. All students are Biology majors and are in their first year of university study in China. They have various English proficiencies (most will be at an intermediate level).
- Faculty Housing: Living room, one bedroom, one kitchen, and one bathroom. Within 5 minute walk of campus and grocery store. Supermarket and bank/ATM within 15 minute walk. Dependents are allowed to stay in the housing with the instructor, but must travel at their own cost.

- Small meal stipend provided in local currency

TEACHING SCHEDULE
Candidates may be asked to teach during one the following terms. Dates are flexible and take into consideration instructor availability.
- Winter Session: Mid-December to Mid-January (2 or 3 weeks)
- Spring Break Session: Mid-March (1-2 weeks)
- Summer Session: May, June, or July (2 or 3 weeks)

Course Option #1: U.S. Classroom Culture
- Syllabus provided (Topics include: U.S. Higher Education System, Standards of Academic Conduct, Academic Resources at Millersville).
- Optional Text provided by the IPS Office for instructor and students. Cushner, K. (2016). U.S. Classroom Culture. NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
- Additional teaching materials can be used.
- About 15 contact hours.
Course Option #2: Intensive ESL
- Syllabus provided (Focus on raising the comfort level of reading comprehension and speaking).
- Optional Text provided by the IPS Office for instructor and students. Simmons, A. (2016). Introduction to American Life. NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
- Additional teaching materials can be used.
- About 15 contact hours.
Course Option #3: Concepts of Biology in English
- Students will earn credit through the international university.
- Syllabus provided (Focus on learning Biology terms in English and preparation for studying science in the U.S.)
- About 15 contact hours.

Notes:
- This opportunity is available to any current Millersville faculty or staff member with at least a Master's degree (any discipline) and teaching experience.
- The candidate will be chosen by the Director of International Programs in collaboration with the Associate Provost of Academic Affairs.
- You will apply to and be vetted by Millersville University, but the Chinese university is paying the stipend.
- The courses are MU-designed and academic credit is provided by the Chinese university.

Chonnam National University (South Korea)
Chonnam National University - Location: Gwangju, South Korea (Southwestern location)
- Students: You would have a variety of international students participating in CNU's International Summer Session as well as Korean students. Class sizes are 10-40 students. MU professors may also recruit MU students to participate. MU students will need to work with International Programs & Services to apply.
- Housing: Guest house on campus (optional).
- Courses: You will submit a few course options that are general undergraduate-level courses in order to attract a variety of majors and interested students. One will be selected by CNU. Teaching hours are 45 hours, 3 hours/day/4 days a week.
- Timeline: 4 weeks late-June to late-July

- Honorarium: $3,000 USD
- Flight support: $1,500 USD
- Housing/Accommodations or 1,000,000 KRW stipend

Qualifications: Doctoral degree with five year full-time teaching experience.
Screening & Application Process: In order to apply for this program, candidates must be nominated by the IPS office around mid-November.

Notes:
- After nomination you will need to apply and submit additional paperwork to CNU including an application, your CV, and a syllabus for any class you desire to teach.
- Final confirmation of participation is sent in late April, after a minimum of 10 students have registered for the course. You are not guaranteed to participate until receiving this confirmation.
- The course credit is offered by the South Korean institution.
