Dr. Specht’s passion for the safety field ignited something inside of me. I switched majors and have had a very successful 35-year career in safety.”

- Married to fellow alum, Lynn A. Pomponi ’91 and are dedicated donors to Millersville University through the creation of scholarship endowments.
- Serves on the Millersville University (MU) Occupational Safety & Environmental Health (OSEH) External Advisory Board (EAB) to ensure that OSEH students/graduates are appropriately prepared for the responsibilities required of entry-level OSEH Professionals.
- Formerly spent 15 years volunteering as an EMT/IV tech; including as a board member of the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department, established/ lead the department’s Life Safety Unit, reached a milestone of installing 1,100 smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in neighborhood homes.
- Shows love for animals by volunteering for Lab Rescue, sharing his home with a sassy 15-year-old cat named Penny and enjoying weekly equestrian lessons.
- Takes trips out West to live out his secret passion of being a cowboy.
- Awarded the Distinguished Service to Safety Award from the National Safety Council in 2017.
