A medical lab scientist (also known as a medical technologist or clinical laboratory scientist) is someone who performs and evaluates numerous laboratory procedures to help other health professionals diagnose, treat and prevent disease. This healthcare profession is in demand in hospitals, doctor’s offices, research institutions and private industry.
In the Medical Lab Science program at Millersville University, students study for three years at Millersville and then apply to an accredited regional teaching hospital for one year of clinical training. Upon successful completion of the clinical phase of the program, students receive a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology degree with an option in Medical Technology. MU students are also eligible to sit for the national certification examination upon graduation.

The Medical Technology program within the Biology major is recommended for students who might consider going to a graduate or professional school following completion of their clinical training. This course of study provides students with a thorough understanding of biology, mathematics and physics before they begin the clinical phase of their undergraduate education.
