Why Study This Program?
A degree in Actuarial Science will prepare you to combine mathematics and statistical thought patterns to assess risk in insurance, finance and other industries. Actuarial Science majors are highly coveted in today’s workforce. Their expertise is honed over many years of intensive education and they emerge after graduation with the skill set to be a highly valuable member of any time.
At Millersville University, Actuarial Science is an option within the Mathematics major. Students successfully completing the option will be prepared to take the first examination administered by the Society of Actuaries. Students enrolled in any of the B.A., B.S. or B.S.E. programs may complete the Actuarial Science option.
What Will You Learn?
All students will get a basis of knowledge in Mathematics before specializing in Actuarial Science courses. Students are able to gain valuable experience applying their skills in “real world” working environments in local businesses or on campus being mentored by a faculty member and a site supervisor.
Many majors complete independent research projects, working one-on-one with a mathematics professor. These are often completed as part of a student’s senior honors thesis for either departmental honors or as part of their University’s Honors College requirements. Other students complete research projects because of their interest in the topic and for the experience of conducting independent research.
