The Department of Geography graciously accepts gifts to our general fund, to a special fund, or to a new endowment. The generosity of our donors ensures that we may continue offering outstanding educational opportunities for our students. Robert and Darlene Ford Scholarship
Frequency: Once per year (decision is made in the spring)
Selection and qualification:
Given to a geography major who has completed 75 credit hours at MU prior to the semester when the award is given. The student must have an overall GPA of 3.2. In addition to the GPA threshold, extracurricular involvement is considered in the decision.
Dr. Joseph W. Glass Geography Scholarship
Frequency: Once per year (decision is made in the spring)
Selection and qualification:
Awarded annually to a rising junior or senior student majoring in Geography with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. Financial aid is a consideration but not required. The scholarship is renewable provided the student remains in good academic standing.
Miller-Averett Geography Scholarship
Frequency: Once per year (decision is made in the spring)
Selection and qualification:
Given to a full-time junior or senior geography major with first preference to a student with a concentration in environmental science and a desire to hold a professional position that will advance work on the impacts of and/or adaptation to climate change. The recipient must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. In addition, financial need may be a consideration but is not required. This award is renewable. Recipient will be chosen by the Geography Department Chair and/or his/her designee.
Predmore-Cornogg Scholarship in Geography
Frequency: Once per year (decision is made in the spring)
Selection and qualification:
Awarded to a rising junior or senior geography major who demonstrates a strong commitment to geography, with first preference to a student with an interest in land planning. The student must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and demonstrate financial need. The award is renewable.
Requirement:
The recipient must meet with the donor for an introduction and general discussion of the student's plans in the discipline of geography.
Geography Faculty Award
Award: Book
Selection: This award is given to a geography major who has graduated with honors.
Delaware Valley Geographical Association Award
Award: Dinner and recognition at the annual meeting of the DVGA.
Selection:
This award is given to a geography major who has demonstrated a commitment to the discipline of geography. In deciding this award the faculty consider GPA, class participation, and any other relevant extracurricular activities.
