William Jordan - Professor Emeritus
- Dr. Jordan received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. His research interest was sedimentation, but he was also the resident expert in historical geology. Dr. Jordan retired in 2000 but still makes an occasional appearance as a guest lecturer in Earth Sciences. Dr. Jordan served as the first chair of the Department of Earth Sciences.

Robert S. Ross - Professor Emeritus
- Since his retirement in 2001, Dr. Ross has been active in various academic activities at Florida State University (FSU) where he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in meteorology. He continues to be a research associate in the Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Science where he has published papers in refereed journals in the areas of tropical meteorology and numerical weather prediction. He has organized several events in the FSU Faculty Luncheon Series and is currently leading the effort to form an interdisciplinary faculty group at FSU. He is also developing a broad course in climate change, incorporating perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, to be taught in the university's liberal studies program.

Yin S. Soong - Professor Emeritus
- Dr. Soong is the founder of Ocean Current Energy International (OCEI). OCEI is a research and development company with a vision to utilize the kinetic energy in ocean currents to make clean and renewable energy available globally. Dr. Soong attended Florida State University (FSU) to study physical oceanography after receiving a B.S.E in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University. He retired in 2007 after a thirty-year career at MU.

Charles K. Scharnberger - Professor Emeritus
- Dr. Scharnberger received his Ph.D. from Washington University (St. Louis). His research interests include seismicity, earthquake history and hazard, and the structure of southeastern Pennsylvania. Dr. Scharnberger retired in 2002, but he continues as Operator of the MU seismograph station (MVL) and an Associate of the Center for Disaster Research and Education (CDRE).

Bernard L. Oostdam - Professor Emeritus
- Dr. Oostdam received his Ph.D. from the University of Delaware. His primary interest was geological oceanography with a special emphasis in estuarine studies. Dr. Oostdam was one of the co-founders of The Marine Science Consortium (TMSC). He retired in 1997.

Ramanantsoa Ramananantoandro - Professor Emeritus
- Dr. Ramananantoandro, or more affectionately Dr. Ramana, was an associate professor of geology in the Department of Earth Sciences from 1990-2008. His primary research interest was geophysics, which he applied to courses in groundwater geology, exploration geophysics, geodynamics, and others. He also researched the use of seismic reflection, magnetic field, and gravity in the study of the geology of southern Lancaster County. During his tenure at MU, Dr. Ramana was was responsible for the acquisition and renewal of the Kingdom Suite Software Package, a gift-in-kind to the university valued at over $500,000 for use in his geophysics course.
