Summer Institutes provide educators and administrators with quality instruction, knowledgeable speakers and faculty, and strategies/techniques to take back to the classroom, all delivered in a one-week course format.
Relevant learning to enhance your professional abilities in an intensive week-long format.
Summer Institutes are scheduled for one week of intensive studies, with some preparatory assignments and final projects on a more flexible calendar. Institutes typically meet Monday through Friday for 7.5 hours each day, for a total of 37.5 contact hours. The first week of 2025 Summer Institutes will be June 23, 2025.
Preparatory assignments will be posted in D2L at least 2 weeks before the first meeting date. Assignments will be detailed in your course syllabus and explained by your institute director.

Our institutes offer 3 graduate credits (90 hours of Act 48 credits), which can be applied towards a master's degree in an appropriate graduate program at Millersville University. *Please check with your advisor to ensure credits can be applied toward your graduate degree.

Registration begins February 11, 2025. Graduate and non-degree students begin registration February 14, 2025.
Registration closes 3 weeks before the listed start date for each institution. Late registration is possible up to 2 weeks before start date, with Permission of Instructor.

Literacy Institute - Culturally Responsive Instruction for Readers, Writers and Thinkers
It is required for Pennsylvania educators to be Culturally Responsive in the classroom. However, what does this mean? Come learn the answer to this question and more by attending this summer institute. Learn how to infuse culturally responsive instruction to create stronger readers, writers, and thinkers. Our dynamic guest speakers will provide you with the instructional tools and ideas to equip your classroom. This will foster your students’ reading, writing, and thinking at high levels. Come and benefit from our engaging speakers, hands-on activities, and relevant assignments to help you incorporate the concepts covered during the course into your teaching (K-8).
Ideal for Elementary Classroom Teachers, Middle-level Classroom Teachers, Curriculum Coordinators, and Elementary Building Principals.

This course is the first in a year-long series of courses designed to provide targeted professional development for current school administrators who seek to understand their role as the school leader in the IEP process and related components in meeting the needs of all learners. Emphasis is given to culturally responsive practices and inclusive strategies for achieving high levels of student growth.

This course is designed for kK-12 teachers who have either little or no exposure to coding. Teachers will be guided to incorporate basic coding into their curriculum. This will include, introduction to computational thinking; hands-on HTML; hands-on/ unplugged coding activities; exposure and application to Scratch, Java, Python; and introduction to digital footprinting. Each teacher will create a take-home product that includes tools and coding activities that they can apply directly to their classes.
