Distant Neighbors
Artists from the Tiger Strikes Asteroid Network
March 18–May 1, 2021
This exhibition celebrates the idea that meaningful conversations and creative communities can thrive between artists in far-flung places. Tiger Strikes Asteroid (TSA) is a network of independently operated, artist-run exhibition spaces with locations in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Greenville, SC. Their goal is to collectively bring people together, expand connections and create community through artist-initiated exhibitions, projects, and curatorial opportunities.
Distant Neighbors includes paintings by Carl Baratta, Mark Brosseau and Sun You, photographs by Yael Eban, collages by Holly Cahill and Kara Mshinda, sculptures by Alexis Granwell and Sun You, and video by Rachel de Cuba.
All the pieces included in the exhibition show concern for color as an integral part of the work, and a particular attention to layered shapes, both literally and figuratively contributing to a strong sense of place. To walk through this show is a visual delight, in which guests may easily find both formal and conceptual connections between the works. These visual connections become a sort of metaphor, alluding to conversations these artists might be having as they shape the future of the artist run galleries in their respective cities.
Distant Neighbors is made possible through the generous support of Susan and Gerald Eckert.
