About the Exhibition
It is my belief that a painting constitutes a reality that reflects our own existence. The goal for me as a painter is to create work that identifies as an autonomous reality, one that resides along with other worldly organisms as a parallel entity, as a real being.
Pigment is suspended in mid-air between the support and the viewer. Paint, by it’s very nature has a tendency to disrupt any presupposed logic or structure. Colors describe and betray their forms. It is, like all living things, affected by the passing of time and light.
At the inception of all my work there is an anticipation of our need for a recollected order and logic within the construction of the piece. Paintings will begin with a conscious acknowledgement of the factuality of the ground (i.e., linen, canvas, paper). This in turn becomes either altered or constantly revisited throughout the development of the painting.
The intention is to create works that are self-contained and self-referential. They move from a predetermined order to a place of emotion. My paintings and drawings do not refer to any fixed idea but rather to the troubled marriage between memory and experience.
