About the Exhibition ...

Scarlet Woman is a body of work dedicated to womanhood. There are a series of pieces that explore uniquely female experiences, the importance of female relationships, and a celebration of female bodies as they are. This show reclaims the stereotypification of feminine colors, such as pink, purple, and red, and uses them in excess to show that these colors can represent more than child-like whimsy. These pieces show parts of womanhood that are painful, angry, silly, loving, goofy, and scary. More than anything, Scarlet Woman is a celebration of all things female.

About the Artist ...

Sophia Camacho is a Millersville University BFA candidate with a concentration in drawing. Her senior show, Scarlet Woman, features her paintings and drawings that focus on womanhood and the female body. Sophia’s pieces show bright, saturated colors, frequently using an array of acrylic paint, alcohol markers, colored pencils, and watercolors. Her current work is an exploration in her experiences as a woman, the female relationships that have been impactful in her life, and uniquely female narratives.
