November 6th and 7th. We had a great visit with Ms. Sherjan. She spoke about the link between illiteracy and war. 80% of Afghan's can't read or write, which makes it easy for extremist groups to manipulate them. This inspired several students to get involved in supporting Aid Afghanistan for Education to help educate Afghans of all ages.
Sherjan left Afghanistan as a refugee in 1979. She returned to Afghanistan in 1999 and established underground classes for girls. February 15, 2003, Aid Afghanistan for Education established its first remedial education program for 300 girls between the age of 12 to 16. In two years this grew to a total of 1200 students.
