London Metropolitan University
London Metropolitan University (London Met) was formed in August 2002 following the merger of the University of North London and London Guildhall University. It is part of a system of public universities offering a wide range of courses. It possesses an experienced, well qualified staff familiar with the needs and aspirations of American students. Most students who study abroad have traditionally been juniors. Participants in the London Met Program can study abroad any time after they have completed their first 24 credits. To participate, London Met requires a 2.7 G.P.A. or higher, both at the time of application and for all coursework taken prior to departure. Students also must consult their home institution's study abroad eligibility criteria to determine if they are eligible. While study abroad slots are not limited in the London Met program, students must still be approved through an application process in order to participate. The Director of Global Education and Partnerships will review applications, and a selection will be made shortly thereafter.

Accommodations for students participating in the London Met Program are secured & contracted by London Met thus they are subject to change at any time. London Met is contracted currently with a student community called Kings Cross Student Accommodation. Conveniently located near King's Cross underground train station (and a short underground ride to the London Metropolitan campus) these stylish, contemporary and secure (24/7 security) accommodations offer:
- Double occupancy with bathrooms, microwave, tea kettle
- Shared Kitchen/dining area: (with all appliances, fridge lockers, cupboard lockers, and plates/pans/silverware are provided)
- Shared Kitchen cleaned twice a day by housekeeping
- Shared common rooms/table tennis/games
- A café
- Free Fitness center
- Fitness classes
- Movie screening room
- Study zones
- Outside courtyard
- Free internet access and VOIP system.
- High tech laundry in basement with a cashless system. (Machines capable of text messaging when out of use, or laundry is complete.)
- Additional items available in lobby (post boxes, towels, dry cleaning, extra storage, housekeeping & irons to borrow.
Students are responsible for purchasing and cooking food on their own. Students have access to a kitchen to prepare meals or may choose to dine out at restaurants and cafes around their apartment or university. Meals, including options for vegetarians, are available from snack bars and cafes located in each of the University's main buildings. Each of the main sites also has a bar serving competitively priced food and drink. In addition, the city of London is filled with thousands of restaurants, supermarkets, and shops to meet every taste.
Students may study at London Metropolitan University for one semester or a full academic year.
Fall semester: Mid-September- Mid December.
Spring semester: Late January - Late May
Studying abroad requires a student to plan for both academic costs/fees and personal travel expenses. It is important to keep in mind the cost of living and currency exchange rates compared to costs associated with living in Millersville. For example, living in a large city will be more expensive than living in Millersville. However, in other areas of the world, the cost of living may be less. Traveling while you are abroad is an additional expense for which you must also plan for realistically. Always keep your travel plans in financial perspective.
To help students plan for all academic costs, the Office of Global Education prepares cost worksheets for all official MU study abroad programs. These cost worksheets take into account all academic costs associated with studying abroad. Some of the amounts listed are estimated for budgeting purposes (airfare, meals, and living expenses); others are actual fees (tuition, passport fees, insurance, participation fees, etc.). Global Education does not provide estimates for additional personal travel.

Students pay MU tuition (in-state or out-of-state depending on residency) and mandatory MU Technology fee, London Met program charge and accommodation fee directly to Millersville. There is an additional non-refundable, non-transferable MU program participation fee and application fee paid directly to Millersville, due at the time of application.
The London Met program charge includes orientation, a tour of London and an evening at a West End Theater, cultural activities, overseas tuition differential and program administration costs. This fee does NOT include meals, passport, airfare, books and supplies or incidental expenses such as personal travel, clothing, laundry or entertainment.
BUTEX Scholarship Opportunity:
The BUTEX Scholarship for North American students is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place at a UK university or college which is BUTEX affiliated. The placement must be for the next academic year and for a minimum of one semester. London Metropolitan University is a BUTEX affiliated institution, as per their list of members.
The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university. For more information on how to apply for this scholarship please link to www.butex.ac.uk.
Students should investigate loans that may be available such as the application for Federal Student Aid. Scholarships have individual regulations, and students should contact their home institution's Financial Aid Office to determine if their scholarship is transferable. Students should work with their major/minor advisors to select courses which help them make academic progress. Courses may fit into their major(s), minor(s), and General Education requirements, where appropriate. The Office of Global Education cannot provide academic advice or determine class equivalencies.
After being accepted to study abroad, a Request for Study Abroad Resident Credits Form and detailed instructions are made available to students and must be completed before a student leaves. This form gives students and their major/minor departments the opportunity to determine potential course choices abroad and the MU equivalencies before departure. With advisor, department, and The Office of Global Education approval, the Resident Credits Form can also be amended while abroad, should students choose to register for other classes that was not originally approved.
After the study abroad program is completed and a transcript is sent to Millersville University, all courses taken will come back to Millersville as transfer credit. Consult the Undergraduate Catalog ("Transfer Credit") for details regarding Millersville University’s transfer policy.
