Why did you give a gift to Millersville?
After more than 60 years as a nurse, I know how valuable nursing is and want to share my dedication through the nursing program at Millersville. I support a scholarship that helps nontraditional students like me obtain nursing degrees.
What brought you to Millersville University?
Despite all of my experience as a nurse during World War II in Germany and later work as a nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lebanon, I was told that I needed a degree to be promoted. So, I took classes at night, during hours when I wasn't at the hospital. And I did it. I went to my boss at the VA Hospital and said to him, "Here is my degree. Where's my promotion?" I did indeed get my promotion.
Please reflect on your experiences at Millersville.
I am amazed at how much nursing has changed for the better over the years and how nurses have more responsibility than ever before. I am also impressed and thrilled to support the extensive nursing school programs at Millersville, preparing nurses for vital careers in healthcare. Back when I was a student at Millersville, people wondered why I went back to school so late in life. You are never too old to learn. That's what Millersville taught me. It was a wonderful experience that I'd do right now, if I could.
