Student Profiles - Stefanie Fisher
Major: BA in Art with a minor in Entrepreneurship
What is your class standing?
My cumulative GPA is a 3.6.
What made you pursue the new Slaugh minor program in Entrepreneurship?
Adding the entrepreneurship minor has given me the confidence and ability to turn the art skills I’ve acquired into a successful business when I graduate.
If you could start any business, what would it be and why?
I have already started my own photography business that I’ve slowly worked to build on the side while completing my bachelor’s degree.
What have you learned, or what are you looking forward to learning about starting or running a business while taking courses in the Slaugh Entrepreneurship minor program? I have already learned a lot about the preliminary planning and attitude it takes to make it as an entrepreneur, and I look forward to learning more about putting together a complete business plan and working with other students to come up with newer and better ways to accomplish things.
What made you choose this minor over any of the other minor programs currently available at Millersville? I chose to add a minor in entrepreneurship so that I could graduate with the skills to build a business from the art skills I had acquired in my major, or build a business in any other area of interest I may have in the future.
Have you met any local Entrepreneurs? If so how have they inspired you to become your own boss? Yes I have, after meeting other entrepreneurs I’ve discovered the importance of having a well thought out business plan and a willingness to work hard. Being a successful entrepreneur requires you to think outside of the box, work hard, take risks, make mistakes, and most importantly, learn from those mistakes.
How do you see the Slaugh Entrepreneurship minor program growing in the next 5 years?
I can definitely see the Entrepreneurship minor growing a lot over the next 5 years. It is a minor that would prove helpful in nearly all fields of study, whether your goal is to start your own business or not.
What is your ultimate career goal?
My ultimate career goal would be to start a business that becomes known nationally, possibly even globally, that helps to meet the needs of those suffering in the world. I would like to design a business that can give back an extremely high percentage to others while still continuing to grow.
What do you find the most rewarding thing is when it comes to starting and owning your own business?
I believe that the most rewarding part of starting and owning your own business is being able to see something you’ve created and built succeed and take off. Also, being able to hear good feedback from customers lets you know that you’re able to help others with what you’ve created.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play tennis, take photos, paint, jet ski, wakeboard, swim, hike.
What is one thing that motivates you? My biggest motivation has always been within myself, seeing just how far I can go and how much I can accomplish when I work hard and try my best.
Can you describe a typical school day for you?
A typical school day includes me going to classes, fitting in homework between classes and after class, running errands and meeting with professors, editing photos for my photography business, and sometimes working as a sports photographer for our athletic department.
What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now?
After completing the Entrepreneurship minor and graduating from Millersville, I can easily see myself successfully starting, building up, and running my own business. As of now, I see that business being in the field of photography, but I can also see myself starting different businesses around my other interests and as different needs arise in my local area.
How has Millersville impacted or helped you grow professionally and personally?
Millersville has equipped me with the tools and knowledge I need to go confidently into any career that may come along in my future. Millersville has helped shape me into the well rounded and confident employee or business owner I will become.
