Department of Geography

“Millersville’s Geography Department feels like home because of its tight knit community. It is rewarding to be surrounded by professors and students who share a passion for understanding the world around us and wanting to make it a better place.”

- Hannah Fritz | B.A. Geography, 2012

Our world is constantly transforming. Climate change, political violence, regional conflict, urban growth, financial stability of the global economy, human migrations, energy futures, food security, and sustainability are among the key issues of our time. Each of which plays out on a dynamic and diverse global landscape. As geographers, we seek to explain why these transformations are happening where they are and to design innovative and creative solutions using the tools of art, science, and technology for a more sustainable future.

The Millersville University Department of Geography proudly offers two comprehensive programs of study: the Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Spatial Sciences and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography. Students choosing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography will specialize their study in one of four options: sustainability studies, environmental studies, geospatial applications, and global studies. Graduates of the program have completed a liberal arts education that serves as the foundation for further academic study in disciplines addressing geographic, environmental, and international issues or for professional fields such as GIS, planning, public policy, law, environmental management, and sustainability. Those students who wish to teach in secondary education, may pursue the Bachelor of Science in education degree with a concentration in Geography.

We invite you to explore what makes geography so special and why Millersville is the right place to study to prepare you for our changing world. Welcome!
